"Call for Entries"
The expanding “Inspiration” through art for people with disabilities. From Sendai to the world!
The Social Welfare Foundation Tohoku Organization for Artists with Disabilities is calling for submissions of artworks from around the world.
We are looking forward to receiving original and free-spirited artworks!!
Call for Entries ‥‥‥‥‥
■Qualifications
People who have some kind of handicap in social life. No age requirement.
■Number of entries
One work per person.
※Only works that have not received awards in the past will be accepted.
※In principle, paintings are accepted. Other works such as “sculpture” and “textiles” are to be submitted upon consultation with the secretariat.
■Conditions for Entry
1. If the exhibitor’s work is selected as a prize-winning work as a result of the second (final) selection, the exhibitor must agree to lend the work to Social Welfare Foundation Tohoku Organization for Artists with Disabilities (hereafter “the organizer”) for a period of one year and agree to display the work at exhibitions and use it in the media.
2. The size of the work must not exceed 200 cm in total length, width and height when packed for transportation to Japan.
3. Works that are perishable, fragile, or made of hazardous materials will not be accepted.
※The details of 1. above will be separately notified to those who are eligible for the competition (whose works have won a prize).
■How to apply
Please fill out the application form and attach at least two images of the exhibitor’s work.
If the exhibitor’s work includes video or music, please attach a partial image of the work to the application. The organizer will contact the exhibitor separately regarding the data of their work, so please send the organizer the data by e-mail.
■About images of artwork
For two-dimensional works, please send two photographs (one showing the overall image and one showing details). For three-dimensional works, please send four to five photographs (from different angles and directions so that the overall image can be grasped) with the application form.
Please attach a jpeg image with “artist’s name,” “title of work,” and “top/bottom” on a sheet of paper clearly so that they appear together with the work. Or please write directly the information on the image.
■Selection Method
①Preliminary selection: Judging will be based on photographs. The first round: Judging will be based on photographs, with the work's image data printed out on plain paper.
②Secondary selection: Judging will be made on the actual work.
■Application period
Monday, March 15th, 2024 - Friday, May 10th, 2024
※Please apply as early as possible.
■Application fee
Free of charge.
※Exhibitors are responsible for shipping costs when sending their works after passing the preliminary screening. However, the organizer will bear the transportation costs when returning the work.
※The organizer will compensate up to 20,000 yen for any damage or loss that occurs during transportation, but the organizer do not provide any other guarantees.
■Selection Results
①Preliminary Selection Results: In mid-June 2024 (scheduled), the organizer will announce the winners who have passed the preliminary selection on the organizer’s website.
Selected works will be exhibited at Sendai Mediatheque and Takayama Uichi Memorial Museum of Art in Shichinohe.
・Sendai Mediatheque (Friday, August 29th - Monday, September 1st)
・Exhibit at Takayama Uichi Memorial Museum of Art in Shichinohe (October 26th (Sat.)-November 17th (Sun.), 2024) (scheduled)
※Please note that the works will be returned by the end of December 2024.
②Secondary Selection: To be announced on the organizer’s official website on August 29th (Thu.), 2024.
■About the awards
Overall Excellence: Prime Minister Award, Speaker of the House of Representatives Award, Speaker of the House of Councillors Award, Minister of Health, Labour and Welfare Award (scheduled), Sendai City Mayor Award, 6 Tohoku Prefectural Governors Award (6 pieces) and Business Sponsor Award
Certificates and supplementary prizes will be presented.

■Terms and Conditions of Application:
Please read all of these terms and conditions of application and apply only if exhibitors agree to them. Please note that all exhibitors are deemed to have agreed to the terms and conditions of the competition.
❶ This art exhibition will be managed by the Social Welfare Foundation Tohoku Organization for Artists with Disabilities.
❷ The organization may change these terms of application if it deems to be necessary, and may take any and all actions necessary to ensure the proper operation of this art exhibition.
❸ Exhibitors shall abide by these application rules and the management method determined by the organization, and shall not make any objection to such management method.
❹ The organization shall not be liable for any trouble or damage (whether direct or indirect) that may occur as a result of an application for this art exhibition.
❺ In the event of any damage to the management in connection with an entry to the exhibition, the exhibitor may be held liable for dispute resolution and compensation.
❻ The award may be revoked in the event of a violation of these entry rules or in the event that the organizer deems the entry to be similar or a double entry even after the award has been determined.
❼ If the exhibitor and contact person are not the same person, please obtain permission from the exhibitor and their family or other family members in the form of a power of attorney when submitting the entry.
❽ Please note that works that fall under any of the following categories will not be accepted.
A. Works that violate these application rules.
B. Works that are or may be offensive to public order and morals.
C. Works that violate or may violate laws and regulations.
D. Works that infringe or may infringe on the copyrights, portrait rights or other rights of third parties.
■ Copyrights and usage rights:
❶ The copyright of the work belongs to the exhibitor. However, for the purpose of spreading and promoting the artistic activities of people with disabilities, the exhibitor agrees to use the work in advertising and publicity, exhibiting the work, producing a collection of works and a calendar, and using the work on the organizer's website and related websites.
❷ If the organizer receives a request from a third party to lend the work, the organizer will discuss the matter with the exhibitor and lend the work to the contact person indicated on the application form.
■ Handling of submitted works:
❶ The works and information provided by the exhibitors for the exhibition will be managed by the organizer.
❷ The organizer will take the utmost care in handling the works, but the organizer will not be held responsible for any accidents that may occur with the works.
■ Purpose of use of personal information:
Personal information of exhibitors will be strictly managed in accordance with laws and regulations as well as the privacy policy on the organizer’s website.
